Every industry needs trailblazers and Animal Food Factory Lemmikki has been one of them throughout its history. Recently, there has been a lot of talk about the safety of pet food, especially raw food, domestic products, raw materials and domestic production.

In order to meet the ever increasing expectations and to ensure even safer products in all circumstances, we have been the first Finnish pet food manufacturer to build the FSSC 22000 product safety system," says Janne Räsänen, CEO of the company.
Animal Food Factory Lemmikki Oy has been producing domestic pet and outdoor bird food from Finnish raw materials in Kuopio since 1986. For 34 years, generations of Finnish dogs have eaten, among other things, Oscar-branded raw pies, sausages and treats. Lemmikki Oy is the only Finnish manufacturer of bird food with its Tintin and Talvilintu products.
Domestic dog food accounts for around 8-10% of the total pet food market. The majority of Finnish dog food is raw paste, which has an extremely high meat content and requires a particularly careful production process. This product group is also almost entirely owned by Finnish producers.
- Naturally, we have long had in place a system of self-monitoring, which in itself is capable of providing more accurate traceability information for all production batches. However, we wanted to demonstrate more visibly how we manage product safety, traceability and quality control in our company by certifying the FSSC Product Safety System 22000. This system is widely used in the food industry but not yet in the animal food industry," says Janne Räsänen. Lemmikki is now the only raw food company in the world to hold FSSC 22000 certification.
